IPhone: Is this what Apple is about? Jan. 15 2007
At MacWorld Apple introduced the IPhone a multimedia phone
with a touch screen. I have waited patiently to write about this phone for two
reasons.
1. Who
wants this phone: Is this phone business-social or both 2. I have
T-mobile and I have little interest in switching to Cingular.
So instead of looking at how the IPhone is so cool and the
details of the phone lets look at how Apple Inc. can get an average Joe to pay $500
bucks for a phone.
Celebrity needed:
Apple makes great products that don’t need endorsements
because they generally are the best. However cell phones come with something
that an IPod doesn’t, a Contract! No average person will sign for a phone that
isn’t “popular”.
So here are a few people that average Americans will follow
into a contract for the IPhone.
Barack Obama: Future Presidential Nominee and Senate rock
star. If an IPhone happens to slip out of his suit pocket I am pretty sure
average Joes would pony up $500 bucks for what Mr. Obama has.
Bill Gates: If Bill Gates has an IPhone it will signal to
the world that the IPhone is so amazing that the chief rival has one. I mean do
we really think Bill Gates doesn’t have an IPod? So lets just say At a World
Poverty Conference Mr. Gates Phone rings and opps he pulls out the IPhone.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: It won’t work if only one of
them has it. Both need to have a picture taken where they are on their IPhones
in a 3rd world country with a kid in the other arm.
Buy Back Program:
Apple has the IPod and it’s a staple of the Music Industry.
However if this phone has hard drive space aApple should start a buy back
program for anyone that has a 4 or 8gb nano. That buy back would allow apple to
resell the nano in a reseller market as a recondition item and also allow
average Joes the chance to own the new hot item, the IPhone.
Grocery Coupon:
A $100 Grocery Coupon would be great because many people
won’t be able to eat for a month if they buy the IPhone. This is not a joke,
simply insert a $100 Gift Card to a Grocery provider and let people know buying
great tech products won’t make you hungry.
Cingular- It’s not that bad:
Apple has to do damage control for the telecom partner that
chose. Cingular has the most customers so naturally they will have the most complaints.
Its like the most popular person in high school is going to be the most hated
also. Love and hate go hand & hand so Apple needs to show love for
Cingular. Pay half of the termination fees from other providers. In order to do
this Cingular should wipe out the return policy for the IPhone. New Policy
would read, “You buy it, You own it – No Refunds”.
